Question:
To ask the Minister for Regional Development, pursuant to AQW 26028/11-15, how he plans to ensure that the number of cyclists using buses and related demand levels are measured.

Answer:
Translink does not issue tickets for bicycles carried on buses and thus there is no mechanism for counting the number carried. Translink has no plans to change its ticketing technology to take account of bicycles carried. However, Translink conductors and ticket collectors monitor the number of cyclists who have tried to use buses or trains with bicycles. In the future the Cycling Unit may be in a position to survey this issue.
