There has been no requirement for official accommodation for the Speaker on the Stormont estate since May 2016. While a property was used in the past by the Commission for the previous two Speakers who lived a considerable distance from Parliament Buildings, when he took office Speaker Newton informed officials that he would not require official accommodation on the Stormont Estate. Arrangements were therefore made for the control of the accommodation and its use to be transferred from the Assembly Commission to the Department of Finance during this period.
