Question:
To ask the First Minister and deputy First Minister what engagement they have had with the UK Government regarding the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland.

Answer:
We and our officials have engaged closely with our counterparts in the UK Government on issues arising from the end of the Transition period including the impact of the Protocol.
As Ministers while we have distinctly different outlooks on the Protocol, we all want to safeguard jobs and the economy, and have taken opportunities to reflect our perspectives at meetings with both Lord Frost and European Commission Vice-President Maros Sefcovic.
Members will know that Mr Sefcovic was recently here in Parliament Buildings as part on a two day visit across the region where he had the opportunity to meet with civic, political and business leaders and hear their experiences first-hand.
We had the opportunity to meet with him and emphasised the need for permanent practical solutions that address concerns and which provide certainty, simplicity and affordability.
We note the recent announcement by the Government of a standstill period that will ensure there is no immediate cliff-edge due to the end of the grace periods.
We will continue to engage with both the Government and European Commission to seek the best possible outcome for our citizens and businesses, including through the Joint Committee, Specialised Committee and bi-laterals.
