Question:
To ask the Minister of Justice to detail (i) what the £3.4 million bid in the October Monitoring Round for the Implementation of Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland entailed; and (ii) how this sum was determined.

Answer:
The October Monitoring Round bid of £3.4m, related to NI Protocol costs for the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI), for police officers, police staff and associated ancillary costs.
The total 2021-22 PSNI requirement for costs associated with implementing the NI Protocol is £15.5m, which includes costs for 308 officers and staff who are already in post. A £9.8m allocation was provided by the NI Executive in the Department’s opening 2021-22 budget. A further £2m was provided by the Executive in June Monitoring, together with a £0.3m re-allocation of funding from within the Department. This left a funding gap of £3.4m which was bid for at October Monitoring.
