Question:
To ask the Minister of Health to oultine his plans to join the National Metastatic Breast Cancer Audit.

Answer:
Whilst I understand that the NHS England announced in May 2021 that it will fund the first ever National Metastatic Breast Cancer Audit. Unfortunately NI does not currently collect and organise the data necessary to carry out this audit.
The draft 10 year NI cancer strategy has completed its public consultation; its overall aim is to ensure that everyone in Northern Ireland, has equitable and timely access to the most effective, evidence-based referral, diagnosis, treatment, support and person centred cancer care.
The need for developments in data collection, coordination and application is a central focus of the strategy. Commitment has been made to carry out a review of the use of data in cancer healthcare, including a formal review of the NI Cancer Registry’s role, engagement with stakeholders regarding optimum use of data, and to ensure that the data collected is used to ensure better cancer care for every patient.
In addition, the strategy specifically acknowledges that work is needed to better understand the needs and experiences of less heard groups including those with metastatic cancer, such as secondary breast cancer. The strategy gives several commitments that will address the needs and improve the treatment care and support of patients with secondary breast cancer.
