Question: To ask the Minister of Health, pursuant to AQW 24372/17-22, what the cost of Scottish Nursing Guild staff was in each Health and Social Care Trust on (i) Saturday 9 October 2021; (ii) Sunday 10 October 2021; and (iii) Monday 11 October 2021.
Answer:
Trust expenditure on agency staff has been incurred to ensure that safe and effective services are sustained and contributes importantly to maintaining service provision to patients and clients. HSC Trusts employ locum staff for several reasons, for example, cover for sickness and maternity/paternity leave; cover for existing vacancies; and when demand increases over the winter months. The primary aim of this is to ensure that safe and effective services are sustained at all times for patients and clients. HSC Trusts do not employ agency nurses. Agency staff are booked to complete shifts as requested. The Department does not monitor daily operational matters within HSC Trusts therefore the information below has been provided directly by HSC Trusts. The Scottish Nursing Guild costs incurred by each trust are detailed below. Trust | Cost of Scottish Nursing Guild 9th October | Cost of Scottish Nursing Guild 10th October | Cost of Scottish Nursing Guild 11th October | BHSCT | £5,530 | £6,524 | £4,958 | NHSCT | £6,738 | £8,448 | £6,335 | SHSCT | £12,717 | £16,014 | £9,777 | SESCT | £3,209 | £2,017 | £2,589 | WHSCT | £11,840 | £10,449 | £8,659 |
