Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs whether the newly announced UK ban on the import of hunting trophies from many endangered and threatened species automatically extends to Northern Ireland.

Answer:
By virtue of the Northern Ireland Protocol, Northern Ireland remains aligned to EU Wildlife Trade Regulations which implement the international agreement on the Control in Trade of Endangered Species (CITES).
CITES in the UK is a reserved matter administered by Defra. While the 2019 consultation on banning hunting trophies was UK wide, the application of its conclusions will now not automatically extend to Northern Ireland due to EU Exit and how the Northern Ireland Protocol currently operates.
