Question:
To ask the Minister of Health how many abortions have been performed since the Abortion (Northern Ireland) Regulations 2020 commenced on 31 March 2020, until 31 January 2022.

Answer:

The Abortion (Northern Ireland) (No.2) Regulations 2020 (“the 2020 Regulations”) came into force on 31 March 2020, legalising abortion in Northern Ireland. The Regulations require a notice of each termination to be sent to the Chief Medical Officer.

Between that date and 31 January 2022, a total of 2,794 notifications of termination were submitted to the Chief Medical Officer.
