Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities whether her Department has collated a breakdown of the reasons for last year's 45 per cent increase in homelessness.

Answer:
The Housing Executive notes that the 45% increase referred to at the All Party Group on Homelessness was referring to a specific reason for presenting as homelessness rather than an overall increase. There has been a significant increase in presentations due to loss of rented accommodation with 1,689 presentations in 2020/21 compared with 2,463 presentations in 2021/22, an increase of 45.8%. A key driver in this increase has been an increase in the sub-category loss of private rented accommodation due to property sale with 636 presentations in 2020/21 compared with 1,380 presentations in 2021/22, an increase of 117%.
