Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure how much the Northern Division has spent on (i) active travel projects, including cycle paths; and (ii) road maintenance, including repair of potholes, in each of the last three years.
Answer:
(i) Expenditure on Active Travel, including cycle paths for Roads Northern Division in each of the last three financial years, 2019-20 to 2021-22 has been provided in the Table 1 below. Table 1 Roads Division | 2019-20 | 2020-21 | 2021-22 | Northern | Active Travel | | £’k | | 690 | 999 | 2,809 |
Active Travel expenditure includes Pedestrian and Cycling Measures. Additionally there may be some active travel expenditure carried out as part of network development and Strategic Road Improvement projects, however, it is not possible to disaggregate that investment from the relevant scheme expenditure. (ii) Expenditure on Structural Maintenance for Roads Northern Division has been provided in Table 2 for 2019-20 to 2021-22 as follows: Table 2 Roads Division | 2019-20 | 2020-21 | 2021-22 | Northern | Capital and Resource Structural Maintenance | | £’k | | 25,951 | 24,411 | 29,989 |
Structural Maintenance includes Carriageway and Footway resurfacing, Patching (repair of defects), Surface Dressing, Carriageway refurbishment and Structural Drainage and Stability. Expenditure outturns will have been determined by budget availability and capacity in a given year.
