Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs what directions or requirements have been placed on district councils as a result of the EU Protocol.

Answer:
Under the provisions of the Official Feed and Food Control Regulations (NI) 2009 (as amended) and the Trade in Animals and Related Products Regulations (NI) 2011 (as amended) and the Sea Fishing (Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated Fishing) Order (NI) 2018, local authorities have been designated as the relevant competent authority for official controls at NI points of entry for checks relating to high risk food not of animal origin (HRFNAO), fishery products (including checks on Illegal Unreported Unregulated Catch Certificates), organics and plastic kitchenware originating in or consigned from China and Hong Kong. As such, local authorities authorise their own officers to perform these checks.
