Delivering a New Road Maintenance Strategy

Delivering a New Road Maintenance Strategy
That this Assembly regrets the declining condition of the road network across Northern Ireland; notes with concern that almost 107,000 potholes were recorded in 2024; further notes the adverse impact a limited road maintenance service has had on our roads over the past ten years; highlights the substantial increase in the Department for Infrastructure's expenditure on public liability claims in the last five years; believes that the maintenance of the road network is crucial for road safety for all users whether travelling in a vehicle, bike or on foot; and calls on the Minister for Infrastructure to urgently present a new road maintenance strategy that will address road maintenance in an effective and efficient manner, with proposals that will deliver higher quality repairs, address workforce challenges, prioritise funding for rural roads, learn from areas of best practice, including the use of technology and allow for proactive intervention.
