Question: To ask the Minister of Finance and Personnel how many people in (i) Northern Ireland; and (ii) East Londonderry are employed in the hospitality sector.
Answer:
It is not possible to provide a comprehensive estimate of how many people in Northern Ireland and East Londonderry are employed in the hospitality sector. This is because the hospitality sector includes categories that are not separately identified within the UK Standard Industrial Classification system (SIC2007) used to classify business activity. However, for information, the number of employee jobs in “accommodation and food service activities” as well as “convention and trade show organisers”, which is a broad definition of the hospitality sector, is provided in the attached Table 1 for the year 2013 (the latest available). Table 1 Number of Jobs in Hospitality Sector Year | Number of Employee Jobs in “Hospitality Sector” in East Londonderry | Number of Employee Jobs in “Hospitality Sector” in Northern Ireland | 2013 | 2,853 | 43,137 |
