Question:
To ask the Minister for Employment and Learning to detail the number of departmental funded PhD places available in each year since 2012.

Answer:

Since 2012, my Department has made available funding for up to the following numbers of PhD studentships at the Queen’s University Belfast and The University of Ulster:

Academic Year PhD Studentships

2012/13595

2013/14631

2014/15729

The universities can at their discretion commute some of these PhD studentships to students undertaking Masters Research degrees, although this is uncommon.
