Question:
To ask the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (i) for his assessment of domestic violence related suicides; and (ii) whether this has been considered in the Stopping Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse Strategy for 2013-2020

Answer:
My Department does not hold statistical information on domestic violence related suicide in Northern Ireland. However, there is evidence that domestic violence can be a risk factor for suicidal behaviour.
The proposed ‘Stopping Domestic and Sexual Violence and Abuse in Northern Ireland’ Strategy recognises that domestic violence is a known risk factor and highlights the ‘Protect Life’ strategy which sets out the NI Executive strategic approach to suicide prevention.
