To ask the Minister of Health, Social Services and Public Safety for an update on the new suicide prevention strategy.

Answer:

The new Protect Life suicide prevention strategy is at an advanced stage of drafting. An early draft was shared with stakeholders and the comments received are informing a revised version which will issue for consultation in the coming months.

The new strategy will reflect international evidence of best practice in suicide prevention as well as learning from local experience of delivering suicide and self harm prevention services. The new strategy will continue to focus on reducing the difference in suicide rates between the most deprived and least deprived areas.
