Question:
To ask the Minister of Enterprise, Trade and Investment for (i) an update on the establishment of a data centre in Coleraine; and (ii) his assessment of how this will benefit the regional and local economy.

Answer:

My Department has been working with the Causeway Coast and Glens Council to establish a pilot Enterprise Zone in Coleraine. HMT is currently considering a request for formal designation of the pilot Enterprise Zone and it is anticipated that this will be progressed in the coming weeks.

I understand that the Council has been in discussion with a company which intends to establish a data centre in the Enterprise Zone. The establishment of such a centre would provide welcome investment in the area and the Council believes will act as a catalyst for the development of further digital and ICT investment in the Enterprise Zone.
