Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to outline what assessment his Department has undertaken on electrical safety of the Private Rented Sector.

Answer:

My Department is currently carrying out a review of the role and regulation of the private rented sector. The standard of properties, including electrical safety issues, is within the scope of the review. Proposals for change resulting from the review will be published for consultation in the coming months.

In addition the review of the housing fitness standard across all tenures, including the private rented sector, is considering a range of proposals including the provision of a specific requirement in relation to domestic electrical safety. I expect to bring forward proposals for change within a public consultation in early 2017.
