Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs to detail (i) how he will enforce Tree Preservation Orders by preventing any removal of older trees by developers; (ii) what actions he will take to ensure appropriate action is taken against developers who cut down trees against Tree Preservation Orders.

Answer:
Tree Preservation Orders are made on a statutory basis to provide protection for selected trees under the Planning Act (Northern Ireland) 2011. Local Councils are the authority that make and enforce Tree Preservation Orders under this legislation, to protect selected trees, groups of trees or woodlands.
