Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure why the threshold for the age at which vehicles are required to undergo an MOT test is set at four years.

Answer:
The timing of the first MOT test is set out in the Road Traffic Northern Ireland Order 1995 which aligns with the requirements of EU Directive 2014/45. This requires a first roadworthiness test within 4 years from the date on which the vehicle was first registered.
