Question:
To ask the Minister of Health what proposals he will bring forward to deliver immediate postnatal contraception in maternity units.

Answer:

My Department is working to develop a service specification for the implementation of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW) recommendations that fall within its area of responsibility. This will include proposals in line with recommendation 86(b) for improving access to a wide range of safe and modern contraceptive options in appropriate settings.

Under the terms of the Ministerial Code, the final draft service specification will be subject to discussion and agreement by the Executive in due course.
