Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to detail the rationale for keeping outdoor sports closed, where social distancing can be observed.

Answer:

The Executive extended the current public health restrictions, which came into effect on 26 December, until 5 March 2021. They will be reviewed again on 18 February.

As you are aware under the current Health Regulations no outdoor sport is permitted except at elite level. In addition, the Regulations permit individuals to undertake outdoor exercise in recognition of the importance of health and physical wellbeing at this time.

My Department continues to engage with sports Governing Bodies to prepare for a return to sport when it is safe to do so.
