Question:
To ask the Minister for Communities to detail (i) the number of second homes in the East Londonderry constituency; (ii) the same figures for the last five years; and (iii) her assessment of the effect of higher numbers of second homes in an area on homelessness and local and social housing provision.

Answer:

Data is not available on the number of second homes at constituency level either for this year or over the last five years. I am aware that some areas are likely to have a higher prevalence of second homes and that this may then impact on the housing available for full time residency.

My Department does not have responsibility for private housing but I recognise that housing is an integrated system. My programme of work therefore encompasses the development of a Housing Supply Strategy that seeks to identify and address those whole system issues which impact on supply across all tenures.
