To ask the Minister of Finance, pursuant to AQW 12558/17-22, whether any plans exist to extend statutory protection for business tenants beyond 31 March 2021.

Answer:

I have decided to put in place a Statutory Rule to further extend the “relevant period” for the purposes of section 83 of the Coronavirus Act 2020, during which a right of re-entry or forfeiture, under a relevant business tenancy, for non-payment of rent may not be enforced, to 30 June 2021. The Finance Committee advised at its meeting on 10 March that it has no objection to such a Statutory Rule.
