Question: To ask the Minister of Education to detail (i) the percentage of non-integrated schools where the majority declared religious background of pupils is less than two-thirds of the total; and (ii) the percentage of integrated schools where the majority declared religious background of pupils is less than two-thirds of the total.
Answer:
Majority declared religion was identified by calculating a percentage for each of the five pupil religion categories using the total enrolment of each school as the denominator. If one of these percentages was 66.7 % or above for a school then that school was not included in the percentages below. The annual school census collects the religion of all pupils attending grant aided schools. In this instance the five pupil religion categories are Protestant, Roman Catholic, Other Christian, Non-Christian, no religion/not recorded. The answer below refers to the 2020/21 academic year. The percentage of non-integrated primary and post primary schools where the majority declared religious background of pupils is less than two thirds of the total was 25%. The percentage of integrated primary and post primary schools where the majority declared religious background of pupils is less than two thirds of the total was 95%.
