Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure what consideration is being given to the provision of cycling infrastructure on (i) Balmoral Avenue; and (ii) Malone Road and Lisburn Road, southbound from Bradbury Place.
Answer:
The member will be aware that I have recently published ‘Making Belfast an Active City – Belfast Cycling Network 2021’. My ambition is to make Belfast a more cycle friendly city, transformed into a vibrant, healthy liveable place, where the needs of citizens are placed front and centre, public spaces are being used to better effect for the physical and mental health and climate change is being addressed through carbon reduction. I have committed £20 million of capital investment in 2021/22 to my Blue/Green Infrastructure Fund, which will provide my officials with the funding necessary to step up the work that is needed to begin the delivery of the routes detailed within the Belfast Cycling Network. Balmoral Avenue, Lisburn Road and part of Malone Road are identified as part of the network. Work is starting on the development of a delivery plan and this will outline a timeframe for the delivery of these parts of the network.
