Question:
To ask the Minister of Health what plans he has to ensure the availability of Continuous Glucose Monitoring machines taht are compatible with an Insulin Pump to achieve a closed loop system.

Answer:
The use of Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) systems may not be appropriate for all patients to manage diabetes, however, where this treatment option is deemed clinically appropriate, it would be funded by the appropriate Health and Social Care Trust, subject to available resources.
There are many CGM systems available to support people living with diabetes and can be used by patients wearing a pump or by those who use injections for insulin delivery. It is also possible, when clinically required, for continuous glucose management and pump therapy to combine to provide a Sensor Augmented Insulin Pump delivery system, which can offer additional benefits and safety for patients with impaired, or no, hypoglycaemic awareness.
