To ask the Minister of Health given his Department's policy on promoting breastfeeding, for his assessment of the appointment of a representative of the formula industry to the Board of Safefood,.

Answer:

There has been no such appointment to the Board of Safefood. Appointments to Safefood's advisory committee were announced on 2 October 2020, having been approved by the North South Ministerial Council. Appointments to the advisory committee are not representative appointments. The advisory committee provides technical advice and guidance to assist safefood in setting strategy and delivering on its business plans.

My Department continues to promote the importance of breastfeeding to health, and raising the public understanding of why it is a major public health issue.
