Question:
To ask the Minister of Health whether he will be issuing a public health message in advance of the 11 and 12 July activities to raise awareness of the need to social distance, wear masks and wash hands; and how the community can support Health Service and Fire and Rescue Service staff by celebrating at home rather than in crowds at bonfires or at parades.

Answer:
Whilst over the last number of months we have been able to make several relaxations to restrictions, it is important to note that social distancing remains an integral part of the measures we can take to protect ourselves and our loved ones. We ask that people maintain social distancing as much as possible and avoid large gatherings as this will help slow the spread of Covid-19. Throughout the pandemic the message has been, and continues to be, to practise good hand hygiene, washing hands well and as often as possible. This remains key to slowing the spread of the virus.
In regards to the use of face coverings, these remain mandatory, unless exempt, whilst on public transport, private buses, taxis, aircrafts, in airports and in train and bus stations. They are also mandatory if you leave your table in a hospitality setting, in any retail setting or in any indoor public space.
The maximum numbers permitted to attend a gathering in venue other than a private dwelling is to be decided by the organisers on a risk assessed basis. This is required for all indoor gatherings with over 15 people attending or expected to attend, and outdoor gatherings of over 30 people.
I hope this is of assistance to you.
