Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy whether he has considered developing a specific scheme for HGV driver apprenticeships.

Answer:

The ApprenticeshipsNI programme already offers funded apprenticeship training, for those aged between 16 and 24 years old, in Driving Goods Vehicles at both Level 2 and Level 3. Work is underway to amend the age eligibility criteria for ApprenticeshipsNI frameworks which would make them available to older apprentices. Both apprenticeship frameworks include knowledge-based and competence-based qualifications in driving a range of goods vehicles including articulated vehicles.
