Question: To ask the Minister for the Economy what support his Department is providing to businesses following the recent Supreme Court case in regards to COVID-19 and business interruption insurance.
Answer:
The issue of business interruption insurance is a matter for the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and does not fall within the remit of my Department to answer. Affected businesses should seek independent legal advice or direct any queries to the FCA. For information, the Supreme Court case on this issue was decided earlier in 2021, which has helped to provide clarity for businesses: https://www.fca.org.uk/news/press-releases/supreme-court-judgment-business-interruption-insurance-test-case
