To ask the Minister for the Economy (i) what conversations he has had with the Minister for Infrastructure regarding HGV licensing changes being made in England, Scotland and Wales; and (ii) for his assessment of how adopting these changes in Northern Ireland could impact the current shortage of HGV drivers here and the resulting effects on jobs and the economy.

Answer:

Thank you for your letter dated 21 September regarding HGV licencing changes.

The issue of licensing of HGV drivers falls within the remit of the Department of Infrastructure. To date I have not had any discussions about licensing amendments made in England, Scotland and Wales.
