To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs what percentage of the Northern Ireland population is currently fed by the local food processing sector.

Answer:

The Department does not hold the statistics required to indicate what percentage of the Northern Ireland population is fed by the local food processing sector.

However, the gross turnover of the Northern Ireland food processing sector, in 2019, was £4.9bn of which £1.0bn (21%) was sold within Northern Ireland.
