Question:
To ask the Minister of Education to detail the funding available for primary schools to be able to bring in sports coaches to develop children’s physical activities through the range of sports played in Northern Ireland.

Answer:

All schools have freedom to utilise their delegated budgets to work with external organisations, including for the provision of sports coaching. Many sporting organisations also work in partnership with schools on a voluntary basis.

In addition, my Department’s Sports Programmes provides funding for coaches from both the GAA and IFA to work with teachers in primary schools to support and enhance the delivery of the PE curriculum. Funding of £500,000 has been provided in 2021/22.
