Question: To ask the Minister of Health when he will publish the medical evidence outlining why the timeframe between the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccination and the booster vaccination should be six months rather than four months.
Answer:
The spacing of booster dose from second primary dose is guided by the expert advice of the independent experts of JCVI. JCVI have recommended that the booster dose is administered no earlier than six months after completion of the primary vaccine course to maximise the impact of a booster programme. The published JCVI statement on recommendations for a booster programme refers to the principal scientific and other evidence considered. I would direct the Member to the full text of the JCVI statement dated 14th September: JCVI statement regarding a COVID-19 booster vaccine programme for winter 2021 to 2022 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
