Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy, pursuant to AQW 25174/17-22, whether he intends to engage with the Northern Ireland steel sector in regards to achieving a net zero future.

Answer:

All industrial emitters of carbon, including the steel sector in Northern Ireland, will be part of the new Energy Strategy’s Industrial Decarbonisation plans.

These plans are being developed as we build our evidence base for high carbon industrial processes and we are working with BEIS to ensure Northern Ireland is part of wider UK Industrial Decarbonisation plans. It is expected that all industry sectors would have an opportunity to participate in any future developments on carbon reduction.
