Question:
To ask the Minister of Finance what amendments he intends to make to existing building regulations to require every new home, including flats and dwellings , to have electric vehicle charging point infrastructure.

Answer:

Policy on electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure is the responsibility of the Department for Infrastructure (DfI).

My Department has offered the use of Building Regulations as a potential legislative mechanism to assist DfI in implementing a requirement for the provision of EV charging point infrastructure, should that department decide to progress in this way. I recently noted the importance of supporting infrastructure for zero emission vehicles and reminded the Minister for Infrastructure that my Department awaits direction on this matter.

In the meantime, my officials maintain a watching brief for further developments in building regulations in other regions.
