Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs what discussions he has had with Belfast City Council in relation to the reopening of Belfast Waterworks following the avian influenza outbreak in the park.

Answer:
My officials met with Belfast City Council (BCC) on Thursday 9 December 2021 to discuss the ongoing Avian Influenza outbreak across Northern Ireland. BCC took the decision following independent expert advice to close The Belfast Waterworks Park.
My officials facilitated a further meeting on Wednesday 15 December 2021 with all councils and a wide range of public agencies to discuss the advice and guidance on dealing with the issue of sick, dying or dead wild birds on their land, in conjunction with the Public Health Agency.
Any decisions on the next steps is for BCC, in conjunction with the Public Health Agency. My officials however, remain available to provide advice and guidance as and when required.
