Question: To ask the Minister of Education how many children have Tourette's Syndrome included in their statement of special education needs, broken down by (i) primary; and (ii) post-primary schools, for the last three years.
Answer:
The Education Authority (EA) cannot provide the requested information as this would require a manual check of all statements of Special Educational Needs (SEN) across the specified three-year timeframe. Tourette’s Syndrome is not a condition listed under the Department’s SEN and Medical Categories and therefore any child or young person with this condition would be recorded under the category of ‘Other Medical Condition/ Syndrome’ on the EA’s Management Information System since 2019.
