Question: To ask the Minister of Health for an update on the work he is doing to mitigate the impact of inflation on doctors' pensions.
Answer:
The current high rate of inflation is having a significant impact on all staff employed in the HSC as well those who have now retired. This high impact is also reflected across all areas of society. One of the significant benefits of the HSC Pension Scheme is that pensions in payment to retired members, as well as accrued benefits under the current scheme, are uplifted in line with inflation every April. HSC pensions in payment, and deferred benefits under the current scheme, are revalued based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) figure from the previous September. Accrued current scheme benefits for active members are revalued based on the same CPI figure plus 1.5%.
