Question:
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs for an update on progress towards publishing a litter strategy for Northern Ireland by 2024.

Answer:

I can confirm that my Department completed the public consultation on the Executive’s draft Environment Strategy on 18 January 2022. This included my proposal to publish Northern Ireland’s first overarching Litter Strategy by 2024, which will consider and propose a range of detailed actions to help tackle the scourge of litter here.

Officials have begun progressing this substantive piece of work and I fully expect to have Northern Ireland’s first Litter Strategy published by the end of 2024.
