Question:
To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether his Department has plans to advance the proposed bridge at the Bannfoot between Derrytrasna and Columbkille.

Answer:

I want to see the Bannfoot bridged as I recognise the regional importance of such a scheme. The beneficial outcomes such an investment will have in allowing people to circumvent Lough Neagh without having to take a significant detour goes beyond the location itself.

A bridge would also be of huge benefit to local communities in promoting cohesion and opening up economic opportunities, such as tourism and leisure activities around Lough Neagh.

I have therefore asked my officials to explore my own Department’s responsibilities in providing a bridge and to engage with the local council and the other agencies that might have an interest in supporting such a scheme.
