Question: To ask the Minister for Infrastructure whether his Department has plans to install a pedestrian crossing on the Belfast Road, Bangor.
Answer:
I am advised that local officials have previously explained that while a demand for a pedestrian crossing is acknowledged, for wider safety reasons there are no plans to install a crossing at this location. Pedestrian crossings must be safe and ensure they can provide enough space for pedestrians and vulnerable users to safely cross the road and must also be located in such a way that they are clearly visible to drivers affording them sufficient time to make adjustments in order to ensure the safety of all road users. Given that these key criteria cannot be met, my Department unfortunately cannot safely provide a pedestrian crossing at this location.
