Question: To ask the Minister of Health what steps are being taken to increase fuel allowance rates for domiciliary care workers.
Answer:
In light of the recent significant increases in fuel costs, my Department, Employers and Trade Unions have been involved in national and local discussions regarding a potential review of the current Agenda for Change (AfC) Mileage Rates. The national discussions have been led through the NHS Staff Council and have been exploring the options in relation to mileage reimbursement rates. Unfortunately it has not been possible to conclude a National agreement on an increase in fuel reimbursement rates. In light of no nationally agreed position, temporary increases have been agreed in Scotland and Wales until the end of July and June respectively. At the time of those agreements, no decision could be made locally due to election period restrictions. My Department is, however, considering options for Northern Ireland.
