Question:
To ask the Minister of Health for an update when the commencement of the trialling of Kuvan on patients in Northern Ireland will take place.

Answer:

My Department has a formal link with NICE under which NICE Technology Appraisals are reviewed locally for their legal and policy applicability here, and where found to be applicable, they are endorsed for implementation within Health and Social Care (HSC).

I can advise that Sapropterin (Kuvan) for treating hyperphenylalaninaemia in phenylketonuria was endorsed by my Department on 20 October 2021 and is available in Northern Ireland in line with the current NICE guidelines (TA729). Further information on the guidance is available from:
