Question: To ask the Minister for the Economy why the Path to Net Zero Energy Strategy did not include the socialisation of connection charges for (i) electric vehicle chargers; and (ii) new domestic heating systems such as heat pumps.
Answer:
The Energy Strategy Path to Net Zero and the Action Plan sets out a long term, high level vision of net zero carbon and affordable energy which includes electrification of heat and transport. Delivering these ambitions will require a range of supporting workstreams to be undertaken and delivered, including reviewing connection charging policy particularly in the context of low carbon technologies such as electric vehicles and heat pumps. The Utility Regulator has commenced the connection charging review and expect to publish a call for evidence later this year.
