Question: To ask the Minister for Communities (i) whether staff who determine Disability Living Allowance awards for children with Down Syndrome are health professionals; and (ii) for a breakdown of the type of medical professional that determines these awards.
Answer:
Decisions on entitlement to Disability Living Allowance are made by Decision Makers appointed by the Department. These Decision Makers are civil servants and not health professionals but are extensively trained in Disability Living Allowance legislation and how to apply the eligibility criteria when determining claims.
