Question:
To ask the Minister of Health for an update on the implementation and funding of the Cancer Strategy.

Answer:

Initial work on the implementation of the Cancer Strategy is progressing according to plan. Work has started on a number of actions, including scoping enhanced support for teenagers and young adults, developing new targets, enhancing clinical trials and developing a cancer workforce plan.

I recently approved governance structures, which includes the creation of a Cancer Programme Board and a Cancer Steering Group to provide the strategic direction, oversight and ensure effective decision making for the implementation of the Cancer Strategy.

I have also approved the allocation of £2.3m budget this year to fund the implementation of year 1 cancer strategy actions line with the funding plan to support implementation.
