Question:
To ask the Minister of Finance for an update on negotiations with Trade Unions regarding the advancement of pay policy for 2022-23 in the NI Civil Service.

Answer:

I have been liaising with officials about how far public sector pay can be progressed in the absence of an agreed budget. I met recognised Civil Service trade unions on 28 September 2022 to discuss the very significant budgetary and political issues that we face at this time. Civil Servants due to receive an increase under the terms of any pay award for 2022 will receive any arrears backdated to 1 August 2022 when negotiations are completed.
