Question:
To ask the Minister for the Economy what plans his Department has to ensure all Northern Ireland Housing Executive and social housing tenants are included in the roll out of smart meters.

Answer:

The Energy Strategy – Path to Net Zero Energy - Action plan published in

January 2022 commits to delivering the following action this year:

Action Plan 20: “Carry out a cost benefit analysis of electricity and gas smart

meters and other technologies in order to access half-hourly and daily

consumption information”. The assignment is due to be completed by the end of this year. I will review the recommendations thereafter.

Any future implementation of smart metering systems in Northern Ireland will have due to regard to the needs of all energy consumers regardless of home tenure arrangements.
